at the last moment #2

june 3 – july 28, 2023

reception: saturday, june 3, 12-6 pm

The Elizabeth Harris Gallery is pleased to present at the last moment #2 an exhibition of new paintings and works on paper by the Danish artist Leif Kath.  This will be the artist’s sixth one-person exhibition with the gallery.  There will be a reception for the artist on Saturday, June 3rd  from 12-6pm.

“Leif Kath works with the pictorial surface with methodical consistency, at first with paths and straying lines on the paper. The essence of the images is one of lines, planes and shifts on the flat surface.  Leif Kath’s focus is on the surface and the possibilities of variation in the explorations undertaken there.  With mathematical precision the artist finds new ways of varying the flat surface and making visible a work process that adds new artistic elements to the series as a result of the technical reduction of material.  There is adding and subtraction, until a result becomes clear, sharp and precise.  Leif Kath’s flat surfaces come close to a geometrical language where forms, lines and surfaces contain everything.  There are no stories or associative references in his art.  Only the formal character of the pictures and the life that takes place in them.”

The gallery is located at 529 West 20th St., 6th Floor and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 12-6 pm and during July, Tuesday to Friday 12-6 pm
